The
Coalition Story
In
1995, Keith Tibbetts & Linbern Eden were two hardworking, unknown
Dj's who started out playing for small parties, weddings & special
events. At that time they called themselves "new vibrations",
but by the following year Keith had set off to college and the task
of carrying around heavy Dj equipment became too much for any one
person to take on. Another two friends, Dion Bodden & Kyle McLean
working as "soul sensation" and the foursome decided to
join and form a group called "Coalition" . . . which means
"to come together for a cause". The cause was the sheer
enjoyment of Dj'ing and pleasing a crowd.
Coalition got its first break into the club scene back in 1998 in
a club known as "the planet". This residency was too short
for crew to make a name for themselves, due to their attendance
in school. Coalition first started opening eyes once again in 1999
@ the popular "sharkey's" nightclub. They played a Caribbean
night with a little bit of hip hop, r&b, and the forbidden word,
reggae . . .
Upon returning from school there was no real opportunity for Coalition
to play, due to the lack of openings in local clubs. For many months
Dj Lin played at a local nightclub for free, polishing his mixing
and crowd pleasing skills under the guidance of another popular
local Dj, Dj Alic. This proved to be the key to all of Coalition's
coming success. With his experience and confidence, Alic molded
Djs Lin & Keith into what people now know as Coalition . . .
"The People's Dj" . . .
In December 2000, a promoter for a well-known nightclub called "The
Next Level" received a sampler cd that Coalition often gives
away to club-hoppers. Coalition at Next Level was born. From the
first week it was an instant success - Coalition was playing to
a full club every Wednesday night, with the crowd partying as if
it were the weekend.
What sets Coalition apart from other Dj's is the passion they have
for the music, not the profit which others strive for. You can almost
be guaranteed that each week you'll hear something new, a hype remix
or perhaps a flashback from down memory lane. Whatever it is, Coalition's
sound, their rhythmic blend of hip hop, reggae, r&b and soca
always seem to motivate the crowd like no other. There's always
a wonderful mix of people, a blend of locals, tourists and expat.s,
dancing the night away.
